In spite of the meeting with the leadership of the national assembly on Wednesday night, President Muhammadu Buhari will not intervene in the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The lawmakers had gone into the meeting with a glimmer of hope that the President may be disposed to intervening in the matter, considering the fact that the lawmakers would soon have to screen his ministerial nominees.
However, President Buhari reportedly avoided the topic throughout the meeting that lasted about two hours.
Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina, stressed that the President was true to his words, when he vowed to not dabble into the matter.
Adesina said Buhari would not interfere as a matter of principle and also due to his nature of disliking ‘underhand deals.
He said: “You know this president. You know that he plays straight. Anything that will amount to underhand deals, he will never be part of it.
“Buhari has said that he will not interfere with the Code of Conduct Tribunal trial and he stands by it.”
