Super Eagles’ captain Vincent Enyeama, has announced his decision to quit the national team.
Enyeama made the announcement on Thursday morning via his Instagram page.
Enyeama’s decision is coming less than 48 hours after his face-off with Sunday Oliseh, gaffer of the Super Eagles.
I have fought a good fight for more than 13years.I have finished my course,I have kept the faith and sang the anthem with passion.henceforth, there is laid for me a crown which only GOD can reward me for my 13years of national service.God bless NIGERIA.from HENCEFORTH,ππππππππI am no more the captain of the NIGERIAN senior football team,I am no more the goalie of the team,I am out of the team.i am no more available for international duties.i want to say thank you to every Nigerian fan and supporter world wide.its been the most trying period of my life but I know that Nigerian are there for me and God is with me.ππππππ.God bless NIGERIA.#ENDOFANERA.
The Lille FC shot-stopper had on Tuesday, reported late to the Super Eagles base in Belgium after he took permission from Oliseh to bury his late mother who passed on in September.
Enyeama was later informed during the meeting that he had been stripped of the captaincy by his coach during a team meeting.
He asked for clarity on the situation and for an explanation behind the sudden change but he was reportedly ignored by Oliseh.
After he insisted on speaking he was told to leave the camp.
He blatantly refused and insisted on getting answers, after which an angry Sunday Oliseh asked security personnel to have him thrown out.
After the incident he said via his Instagram account:
After 13years of national service, having this smiles on my face and this passion in my heart.through the billows, the waves of the ocean, the tears of defeat, the sound of rejoicing from victory chants.now the thought of being stripped naked and security agents throwing me out breaks me completelyππππππππ.i will take anything but not insult to my late mother.πππππππππππππ.
It took the intervention of officials of the Nigeria Football Federation before the situation was doused and Enyeama was allowed to remain in the Eagles’ camp.
